Stars of the Dutch Open 1 – Esther de Schiffart
🇬🇧 With a record of six victories (2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018), Dutch Pitch & Putt star and member of Pitch & Putt Papendal, Esther de Schiffart, is the current all-time leader in Dutch Open titles. Born in Apeldoorn, Esther began playing in 2005 after winning free Pitch & Putt tickets at a beach volleyball tournament. Like many of us, she immediately became addicted to the game—and that passion brought plenty of success.
Over the years she has won 27 individual domestic titles and 11 individual international titles, along with numerous second and third-place finishes.
In her quest for even more competition, Esther decided to compete in the gents category in 2016. There too she achieved success, winning two national titles and finishing second in the overall ranking of 2017.
In addition to her individual achievements, Esther and her (life) partner Maurits Rangkouw have captured many domestic and international titles and podium finishes as a mixed pair. Outside of Pitch & Putt, Esther enjoys golf, travelling and the occasional visit to a casino—where, much like on the course, she tends to win more often than she loses.
Her most memorable moments include her first tournament win where she “was shaking from here to Tokyo” on the final putt; her second place at Deerpark during the 2011 Irish Open; a round of 45 at the 2013 FIPPA World Championship (remarkable as she had just returned from an Achilles tendon injury); and her first international victory at the 2015 Catalan Open.
In the 2019 edition of the Dutch Open she will once again be among the favourites. For Esther, that pressure is pure motivation, and whatever the outcome, simply enjoying the game of Pitch & Putt—after all these years—remains the most important thing.

🇪🇸 Con un récord de seis victorias (2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018), la estrella neerlandesa del Pitch & Putt y miembro de Pitch & Putt Papendal, Esther de Schiffart, es la actual jugadora con más títulos en la historia del Dutch Open. Nacida en Apeldoorn, Esther comenzó a jugar en 2005 tras ganar entradas gratuitas para Pitch & Putt en un torneo de vóley playa. Como muchos de nosotros, se enganchó inmediatamente al juego, y con esta nueva pasión llegaron numerosos éxitos.
A lo largo de los años ha logrado 27 títulos individuales nacionales y 11 títulos individuales internacionales, además de varios segundos y terceros puestos.
En su búsqueda de aún más competencia, Esther decidió jugar en la categoría masculina en 2016. También allí tuvo éxito, ganando dos títulos nacionales y terminando segunda en la clasificación general de 2017.
Además de ser una gran competidora individual, Esther y su pareja Maurits Rangkouw han conseguido numerosos títulos y podios nacionales e internacionales como pareja mixta. Fuera del Pitch & Putt, a Esther le gusta jugar al golf, viajar y visitar ocasionalmente un casino, donde—al igual que en el Pitch & Putt—suele ganar más de lo que pierde.
Entre sus momentos más memorables destacan su primera victoria en un torneo, donde estaba “temblando de aquí a Tokio” en el último putt; su segundo puesto en Deerpark durante el Irish Open de 2011; su vuelta de 45 golpes en el Mundial FIPPA de 2013 (especialmente impresionante tras una lesión del tendón de Aquiles); y su primera victoria internacional en el Catalan Open de 2015.
En la edición 2019 del Dutch Open volverá a ser una de las favoritas. Para Esther esa presión es una motivación pura, y sea cual sea el resultado, disfrutar del Pitch & Putt—después de tantos años—sigue siendo lo más importante para ella.

Geboren in Apeldoorn begon Esther in 2005 met Pitch & Putt, nadat ze vrijkaartjes won tijdens een beachvolleybaltoernooi. Net als velen van ons raakte ze direct verslaafd aan het spel—en met die passie kwam al snel veel succes.
In de afgelopen jaren heeft ze 27 individuele nationale titels en 11 individuele internationale titels gewonnen, naast diverse andere podiumplaatsen.
In haar zoektocht naar nog meer uitdaging besloot zij in 2016 op nationaal niveau uit te komen in de categorie heren. Ook daar bleek ze succesvol: ze won twee nationale titels en eindigde als tweede in de overall-ranking van 2017.
Naast haar individuele successen heeft Esther samen met haar (levens)partner Maurits Rangkouw als mixpaar vele nationale en internationale titels en podiumplaatsen behaald. Buiten Pitch & Putt houdt Esther van golf, reizen en zo nu en dan een bezoek aan het casino—waar ze, net als op de baan, vaker wint dan verliest.
Haar mooiste herinneringen zijn onder andere haar eerste toernooizege waarbij ze “stond te trillen van hier tot Tokio” op de laatste put; haar tweede plaats op Deerpark tijdens het Iers Open van 2011; een ronde 45 tijdens het FIPPA Wereldkampioenschap 2013 (bijzonder omdat ze voorafgaand aan dat toernooi herstelde van een achillespeesblessure); en haar eerste internationale overwinning tijdens het Catalaans Open 2015.
Tijdens de Dutch Open-editie van 2019 behoort zij opnieuw tot de favorieten. Voor Esther is die druk pure motivatie en wat de uitslag ook wordt: genieten van het spel Pitch & Putt—ook na al die jaren—blijft voor haar het allerbelangrijkste.
We zijn enorm trots op haar en hopen nog lang van haar spel te mogen genieten.
